Low Vision
Reduced or impaired vision that cannot be adequately corrected with conventional glasses, contact lenses, surgery or medication, is known as Low Vision. This can result from eye disease (such as macula degeneration or glaucoma) or through trauma.
People with Low Vision commonly have partial sight, in the form of blind spots, tunnel or blurred vision. It impacts many aspects of a person’s life and can make daily living activities such as reading, recognizing faces and moving about difficult.
Here at TAURANGA EYECARE, we offer a low vision assessment, tailored to meet your individual requirements. Performed by an optometrist with specialist knowledge and interest the assessment will focus on maximizing your current vision through the use of:
– Magnification
– Lighting and Contrast
– Glare Minimisation
– Non-Optical Devices
The assessment can also help the person with low vision and their family to better understand their vision impairment, and advice will be given on how to use selected vision aids effectively.
If needed, we can refer you to additional services such as the Blind Foundation, Macula Degeneration NZ and Glaucoma NZ.
