Calling all contact lens wearers in Tauranga.
Do you know the do’s and don’ts when it comes to wearing contact lenses?
Here are 5 things to avoid
Sleeping in them
- Sleeping in your contact lenses is not recommended as it can cause pink eye, dry eyes or keratitis – a sight threatening infection.
- Wearing them in saunas, spas or thermal pools
- The majority of contact lens manufacturers recommend NOT wearing contact lenses in saunas, spas or thermal pools. Chlorine and heat are a bad combination – increasing the risk of infection from micro-organisms.
- Sharing them
- With the growing popularity of coloured contact lenses, this is becoming an issue – especially amongst teenagers. Sharing your contact lenses is an absolute no-no under all circumstances (some teenagers have lost their eye-sight as a result of sharing contacts)
- Using saliva, water or any other non-sterile solution to moisten them
- Any liquid that’s not sterilised could be contaminated, so only use the contact lens solution recommended by your optometrist.
- Re-using the solution
- Your contact lens solution is disposable, meaning fresh solution should be used for each application. Note: the solution case itself doesn’t last forever either, we recommend disposing of your case every three months.
